crazy stuff

August 20th, 2008 at 06:00 PM by A Evans

Soooo...here's the shake down.

I was called for an interview at a CPS high school. Was offered the job on the spot. I asked for a day to think it over. That was granted. So, I called the other school and left a message stating that I had been offered another position, but would not like to miss out on the opportunity for a position at their school. No return call. I called the school again after two and spoke with the AP. Was told I did not make it to the second round...

That same old song and dance...

August 20th, 2008 at 05:46 PM by Tara Dawn

Well, I'm registered for my classes. The trick now is paying for them. This is not my favorite game, let me tell you. I'm one of the lucky random students being audited for my fafsa, so it's a mess of paperwork before I can even get evaluated for my financial aid. It'll take another 5 weeks. Because of this, I have to sign up for a payment plan, which includes a $30 fee and a $500 deposit. Argh. I'd have the money if I didn't just spend it all on my summer classes...

Soooo....

A little worried

August 20th, 2008 at 05:31 PM by cargirl86

Ugh.

So I'm a little worried that I won't be able to financially survive until mid-September. Car insurance is due this month, and of course with my new fiscal responsible ways, I'm budgeting for this expense ... but since I haven't in the past, for this month it's a big expense.

I'll be fine for the rest of August, and will be fine to pay rent and a FEW bills, but the rub is that most of my bills fall near the beginning of the month. So I'm just a little worried. I have...

Thursday started out bad

August 20th, 2008 at 04:45 PM by Brittani

I skipped school.
There was nothing wrong with me.
I wasn't sick.
I wasn't even tired.
I was just upset about failing a test Friday.
I tried to test out of a class and I missed an A by 4 points.
I had to get an 89 and I got an 85.
How bad is that?
I will be posting about why I skipped today tomorrow, when I don't skip.

How Would You Spend Michael Phelps’ Billions?

August 20th, 2008 at 04:41 PM by Fellow Investor

Michael Phelps is set to earns billions over the next few years after his unprecedented performance in the Beijing Olympic "Water Cube" pool where he won eight gold medals to surpass the tally of seven gold medals won by his compatriot Mark Spitz in swimming in 1972.

4530

As the greatest ever Olympian what would you do with the money? I don’t think he would merely place the majority of his earnings into a term deposit account to save for an overseas holiday or a deposit...

Dear media moguls

August 20th, 2008 at 04:16 PM by Broken Arrow

{Rant mode on}

I realize you are concerned with piracy, but please don't try so hard that law-abiding folks like me can't watch your DVDs. It makes me really not want to buy your DVDs, your DVD players, Blu-Rays, and even HDTVs!

Yes, I'm serious!

Why would I want to do that when I can just torrent and watch straight off my PC? Yeah, you heard me! Torrent! BUT! For the record, I don't torrent.

I'm one of those regular people who don't go to lengths towards piracy,...

Do you buy your wife clothes?

August 20th, 2008 at 04:06 PM by jIM

Wife's birthday is Friday and I need to buy her something. She does not want me to spend more than $150.

Most years in the past I get her clothes- she wears suits to work and I do a reasonable job picking out good ones. Her best 3 or 4 power suits were picked out by me.

Because we were going through some expensive fertility treatments last year at this time she did not want a gift... and because she was in hospital for my birthday she did not get me a gift either.

So...

If only I didn't feel so bad...

August 20th, 2008 at 01:35 PM by krninco

I would run the rest of my eBay stuff to the post office, but I'm coming down with a cold, the flu or ebola (not sure which, but it's not pretty....)

Since today is the first full day of school for my daughter, I decided it would be my work-at-home-all-day-without-passing-GO-and-spending-$200 day (i.e. I didn't have plans to go anywhere or spend money). However, tomorrow I was planning on volunteering at the school so I figured I would mail my eBay stuff on the way, but then...

I'm drinking more water for my health & to save

August 20th, 2008 at 11:17 AM by Sharman Lawson

Okay, everyone knows we need water to live, right? I mean, water is what makes our bodies operate. Soda and juice habits can be expensive, and can do damage to your health. So I suppose water is the answer, and I'm not talking about bottled water either.
People drink bottled water because they feel it is safer. We're told and programmed to believe that bottled water is cleaner, safer, and healthier. However, a study that did a comparison of tap and bottled found that there was...

Weird situation to find oneself, comments requested

August 20th, 2008 at 10:32 AM by Me!

This post might go along with one that BA posted and others have posted in the past few weeks: dating and money and relationships.

I ended my two year relationship this past April. Andrew and I are still friends and talk weekly but our lives are just going in two different directions. He currently lives in Barcelona and has spent most of the past 24 months there for work. His company is transferring him to Hong Kong in October for 18 months then to NYC for what he hopes is...

I have been looking for an home church and I think I found one. I have to go a couple more Sunday to make sure it's the right church for my family. Well in Sept. they are starting Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University and I plan to register for the class. I don't feel like I'm in a bad financial situation but I know that I could be in a better one. But since I have been reading financial books, listening to CD's,and Watching DVD I have progressed so much. I am also so greatful...

Bahamas

August 20th, 2008 at 10:05 AM by Kenya

Ok. I was so excited to go to the Bahamas in Dec. I just found out Friday that the trip will be cancelled due to lack of payment on the other people part. So now I will put that money towards my EF. It has been put on hold for a min. I have been getting real agressive with my debt elimation. But the Good news is that Another trip to the Bahamas has come along for 2010. And I'm going to that one. I will be debt free by then with a fully funded EF. Also by then I will have had started...

Inflation Could Be Worse

August 20th, 2008 at 09:59 AM by Not So Mighty Merch

Zimbabwe "inflation rocketed to a staggering 11 million percent in June, the highest in the world, from 2.2 million in May, and chronic food, fuel and foreign currency shortages are worsening.

But many economists believe the figure is higher still and it has little meaning for Zimbabweans, who find that a loaf of bread costs almost five times more than it did a month ago -- if it can be found for sale."

Catching up again

August 20th, 2008 at 09:28 AM by Carolina Bound

Once again, I've been away too long.

Since my last post, I've had a birthday, had temporary crowns put in, and I've opened an antiques/collectibles booth with my sister!

For my birthday I got new pajamas, a new top, new sandals, lunch at a wonderful inn, steak dinner on the grill, lots of cards and good wishes. It was a great day to celebrate my first annual 59th birthday!

My temporary crowns are giving me fits -- they keep breaking! But two good things -- I will have...

Saving on lighter fluid!!

August 20th, 2008 at 08:50 AM by Ima saver (julie is my real name)

Have you seen how much lighter fluid is lately? Here, it runs between $4-5. We pretty much only cook out on the grill; very seldom do we cook in the kitchen.
I am just not going to pay $5 to get the charcoal started on the grill.
Instead, we went to Ace Hardware and bought one of those plug in type charcoal starters.
We used it last night and it worked great.
We buy a lot of our paint for the customer's homes at Ace hardware. They send us gift cards all the time. We had...

Divvying up the extra money

August 20th, 2008 at 08:15 AM by ceejay74

I had fun yesterday moving around the $1700 that I had saved for dental costs. I:
- Kept $450 for my surgery
- Paid a couple of small medical bills (about $80 total)
- Paid AS's student loan interest ($145)
- Allocated about $650 to my September personal loan payment for a little debt repay. This means we'll exceed our September goal!
- Added $95 to our home-improvement garage sale winnings, taking it to $450
- Replenished our health and education categories for September...
